It is a widely misunderstood fact that the human body, when placed in Peru, will eventually decide to host a mystery virus—usually one with an unpronounceable name and a wicked sense of humour. One day you’re happily wandering the Andes, the next you’re negotiating with your own internal organs. Mine arrived without so much as a postcard.
What follows is the chronicle of my noble, if somewhat ill-advised, quest to defeat this microscopic plague by any means necessary: herbal concoctions of dubious legality, ancient remedies whispered by suspiciously cheerful locals, and one particularly alarming beverage that tasted like regret.
