Top 5 Fitness Predictions For 2010 & Beyond

Can you believe that 2009 is coming to an end tomorrow?

This year has been a big year for me – with getting engaged in January and getting married in November a lot has happened my friends.

So, what can you expect from the new decade that will be amongst us in only 2 days?

A lot of the same, plenty of new and a death of the scammers.

That’s my take.

So here’s a list that I’ve got after looking into my crystal ball to see what 2010 and beyond will bring us…

1) Jay Z rapped about D.O.A (Death of Autotune) on one of the years best albums and I’m going to predict the D.O.W.T (Death of Weekend Trainer).

By weekend trainer I mean those dodgy trainers that get into the industry just by doing a “weekend certification” whereby you attend a course and presto you can train people.

Where’s the anatomy understanding? Where’s the practical experience on working with clients or running a business?

I predict that those trainers will fall by the wayside when they aren’t able to sustain it in the game.

Their will bootcamps fail, they won’t get results and they don’t share the passion for fitness that the ones that make it in the game do. They’ll also realise that being a decent personal trainer isn’t just about the bucks. It’s about making a difference and helping people get what they want.

2) 2010 will also see the continued emergence of bodyweight training as a preferred training option.

These are the perfect solution for busy people, travellers and those who want to exercise at home. Best of all it saves you from ‘those’ people at the gym that sweat all over the bench your about to use without wiping it down!

Fitness professionals will embrace more bodyweight workouts into their routines and so will the average Joe and Jane that want a workout that works.

3) Change In Focus For Business People.

That's What I Want One Day

That's What I Want One Day

This is a big prediction here. It may not happen instantly in 2010 but I believe that more and more business people and professionals will realise that they’ve been working for the wrong reasons.

It ain’t about the big bucks if your kids don’t recognise you or would rather play with your nanny.

I think more businesses will become more people friendly and let people work from home or take more time off if they can get more done in less time.

The traditional 9-5 work hours (or longer in most cases) will become a thing in the past as people get more done in less time and as a result have more time to spend with their families.

This in turn will have a positive benefit for peoples health as they will get out and run around with their kids instead of being chained to a desk and will have more time to workout for their own personal benefit.

That’s what I want for my future and I know a lot of other people will realise that’s possible too (and achievable).

4) The Personal Touch Will Reign Supreme

There’s always going to be a place for online fat loss programs for people who know their way around a gym or would just rather workout at home. That’s cool and there’s a market for it.

BUT I predict that 2010 will see people crave the human personal touch when it comes to their training options.

The Personal Touch Will Reign Over Online Programs

People will want a trainer who is actually there rather than just a face on a webpage.

People want someone who will empathise with their needs and goals.

People want a real person that cares.

That’s why the face to face touch will always reign supreme over the online programs.

The other beauty of this type of training, and one big thing I find with my own Sydney Group Fitness sessions is that people really enjoy the social interaction with everyone else in the group.

I love training my groups because people get on so well and make it a fun place to be at.

5) Scammy Fitness Infomercial Products Will Be Dead & Buried

I see another D.O.A Jay Z style moment. This time it’ll be D.O.S.E (Death Of Scammy Equipment).

Things like the Ab Dominator 3000 and all those ones that you see everytime you turn on every morning show or late night tv will finally be seen by the general public as the garbage that they are.

People will finally wake up and realise that you are not going to look like a swimsuit model in 2 weeks after just using some useless ab machine for 2 minutes a day.

Real world fitness advice will reign supreme and the scammers will die a long and painful demise.
