This top 10 posting will be a 2 part special with parts 1-5 today focusing on the best healthy eating tips and motivation strategies that I have for you to start 2010 the right way.

This will ensure that you control your food habits rather than your food habits controlling you which happens to most of us during the Christmas season.

What with all the parties, food, alcohol, more food and did I mention the alcohol too? I’m sure you get the point. It’s a destructive time of year but it doesn’t have to continue like that.

Here’s your get out of jail free card (and I know that isn’t how we spell jail in Aus – the English way looks terrible).

1) Draw a Line in the Sand – yesterday ended last night and 2009 ended on New Years Eve

Just because you went overboard with your eating over the festive season doesn’t mean we have to continue does it?

Let’s say today is your first day back at work.

That’s the perfect time to start a new healthy eating plan don’t you think? It is for me starting today.

Sure my abs aren’t as prominent as they were before I got married in November but I’m actually looking forward to no mid-week drinking and eating out sessions.

I can guarantee you that my abs will be looking like they used to in no time. Will yours?

Your body should be telling you the same thing right about now.

Why let it run into February as well? It isn’t worth it my friend. Build that bridge and get over what you did to your body last year.

2) Ditch The Mid Week Alcohol

I enjoyed a few midweek drinks during the break and yeah it was fun. For then. Like I mentioned earlier it doesn’t mean we have to continue this way.

Mid week drinking is the sure fire way to ensure that your belly keeps getting bigger and bigger in 2010 rather than smaller and smaller.

Don’t let the belt creep up any further notches. Save your drinks until the weekend and then only drink if you can promise yourself that you won’t make up for lost time and get plastered the first chance you get.

3) Get Back To Clean Eating

This one isn’t rocket science thankfully. Go shopping and stick to the outsides of the store – fresh fruit, vegetables and meat are always around the outside of the centre.

I went shopping yesterday for our groceries and only went down the aisles when I was looking for the tuna, nuts and not much else.

Those inner aisles are just traps to get you to eat rubbish. Besides, if you value your time like I do it makes your shopping trip shorter!

Next part of the clean eating is to ensure that you are properly prepared for your meals – eg don’t be stuck for nothing for lunch when you know you’re only going to be around fast food options when you’re at work.

Plan ahead and bring your lunch or bring the stuff necessary to make it fresh at work. Keep it in the fridge or an esky if need be.

4) Write Down What You Want To Look Like Or What Size You Want To Be

Whether it is getting back in your skinny jeans or getting your abs flat again – whatever it is say it out loud and write it down.

Refer back to it everyday and recite it in front of the mirror each morning when you wake up and each night when you go to bed.

Say for example “I can fit back into my skinny jeans” or “My partner loves my new flat belly”.

Talk to yourself as if it has already happened. Your mind doesn’t know the difference.

Talk yourself into believing that you are already where you want to be and your mind will go into action and make choices for you like you are.

Sounds silly but it works. Just trust me!

5) Stay Away From The Fad Diets

It makes me sick that the scammy people behind all the fad diets flood the advertising airways with these ads promising that people will look great again if they eat like a rabbit and drink their fabulous shakes instead of eating real food.

These 5 points will get you on the right path. The rest of the top 10 will follow in another 2 days.
