The Slight Edge – Have You Got It?

I am currently reading an awesome motivation book, The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. It was given to me from a guy I had a business meeting with the other week.

It makes for a very interesting read.

In a nutshell, the slight edge is something that most people can’t be bothered to do.

It’s the little things done day in and day out that makes someone successful.

Most people will do something for a little while say “it hasn’t made me a millionaire yet” and quit.

These people don’t have the slight edge.

Very early on in the book it gives an awesome analogy.

It tells the story of 2 frogs. I’ll briefly summarise it for you for today’s very powerful lesson.

These 2 frogs left the swap one night and went exploring. They ended up in a dairy and jumped into a milk pail that was half full of cream.

They loved it. They drank and drank. When they’d had enough it was time to get out.

But there was a big problem.

How on earth could they get out – sure, it was easy to hop straight in but getting out was proving difficult. The inside was too slippery to climb out of.

They were trapped. Big time.

The frogs were thrashing about when one frog got tired and realised
“this is the end” and gave up and drowned.

His brother, being of more stronger sentiment, tried to stop him but to nail avail. The first frog died and that made the second frog more determined.

He continued to swim around in circles hoping for a miracle. He was pumped. There was no way he was going out like this.

Well to cut a long story short he got exhausted and just as he was about to give up he realised that he didn’t sink.

In fact, he touched something solid.

So what happened?

The second frog had created a big lump of butter!

He hopped on out of there and hopped on back to the swamp.

Now you may think what does a silly story about a frog have to do with success?

Well it struck a cord with me.

How many people give up just when they have success in their sights?

Too many in my book.

It won’t be me sure and for certain and I hope it won’t be you!

The Slight Edge has many great secrets – and I’m only up to page 82. It’s a must read in my book.

Hi Daniel, great post really! Just the push I need to send me off for the coming week. It really is true that most people stop short when success is just within their finger tips. I learned that from my own journey as person who initially just wanted to lose weight to having success with it -> to becoming a personal trainer -> and finally building my own business from the ground up.

This story is a good reminder for me to continue what I’m doing to help my business grown and not be discouraged by little bumps in the road.

Keep up the great work! I truly enjoy your posts.
