Okay, I can feel a rant coming on – so you’ve been warned but if you are looking for a Sydney Personal Trainer and you’ve stumbled upon this post you might want to continue reading.
What really gets me is that in 2009 we are still seeing trainers using ineffective methods of training and still passing themselves off as so called “fat loss experts”.
What do I mean by this?
Well, if you are reading this, chances are you are looking to maximise your fat loss results. Am I right?
Good. We’ve established that.
So what do I mean as ineffective methods of training?
Exhibit 1:
The Personal Trainer who starts every session with a alright team let’s go for a lap around the park or a run around the blog. Or the gym trainer who gets their client to warm up on the treadmill.
That my friends is so 1990.
It is your first case in point for an ineffective warm up.
Let’s ruin your joints by getting you to run around when your muscles aren’t warm then throw you straight into a weights workout.
That makes sense – yeah right.
Exhibit 2:
For exhibit 2 your honour I plead the case of the trainer who starts their workouts with a static stretching routine.
If running around the block was so 1990 then a static stretching routine to start a workout is so 1970.
Want to increase your risk of injury before you even start to workout? Then go ahead and do a static stretching routine.
Trust me, the most effective – and only way to warm up before each and every workout is with a dynamic warm up using bodyweight exercises – like the exact ones that you’ll be doing in your actual routine.
It gets your body ready for the job ahead – it gets your mind ready for what’s coming and you are reducing your risk of injury big time.
A good example of the optimal dynamic warm up routine is shown below.
As you will see you are using every muscle in your body a number of times over and not just doing a lap around the block or a few static stretches.
That is exactly what you’ll get at DPM Performance. I vary it up but you get the picture.
FINAL NOTE:
Sydney is not Robinson Crusoe in this case. There are dodgy personal trainers in every city in every corner of the globe.
Make sure you do your homework and ensure that yours is not one of these bad ones.
If they are don’t be afraid to turf em – or tell em to brush up on their knowledge. It just may save you an injury.
