I’m a bit tired this morning but only because I got back to Sydney late last night after being in Adelaide for a fantastic weekend of Barossa Valley Wineries and of course, yesterdays final Tour Down Under City Circuit Stage (oh and we escaped the Sydney heatwave!).
So because I’m all in the cycling theme at the moment todays Munday’s Motivation will of course revolve around that.
Now, I know I’ve quoted Lance Armstrong a bit over the years but the man’s a bank of quotes to inspire people.
Today’s one is simple. Carpe Diem. Seize the day. That is one of Lance’s driving mottos as you’ll know if you’ve read his books.
It’s a perfect theme to live by.
Why complain – make the most of things and get on with it.
To be honest, I felt kinda bad for the bloke yesterday. 5 minutes before the days stage started he was talking to the media and then coming over my way to sign autographs. I was half a metre away and just happy to get a few action shots when he didn’t come any further across.
Every other cyclist is in their own world at this time, and so they should be, but Lance is fulfilling obligations that don’t really need to be fulfilled that close to start time.
He just got on with the job and hopped on the bike to ride.
Perfect lesson if you ask me, get on with the job at hand rather than whinge about the circumstances.
To give you an insight to what it was like being on the sideline of the race – check out this short clip (it’s a bit wonky at the start) but the riders are flying by literally less than a metre from me.
According to the commentator on the loud speaker they were doing over 70km/h at this part of the course. Absolutely amazing.
So Carpe Diem – seize the day!
