Last night on 60 Minutes there was a very good interview with Tiger Woods. The video is not online yet as I write this but you’ll be able to find it here soon I expect and it’s worth the look.
Now I’ll clarify one thing here – I have never watched a game of golf in my life and I have never played a game of golf in my life. Personally I’d rather watch grass grow. It just doesn’t get me in – so I’ve never really jumped on the Tiger bandwagon.
Sure I could always appreciate that he was a super golfer as he’s been able to kick everyones butt for so long and I did admire coming back after a knee reconstruction and still being on top of his game.
But now I have a new appreciation for him.

In the interview he came across as a genuine guy which for a multi millionaire who doesn’t have to give his time to anyone is something to start with.
Then it discussed just how driven he was and how from an early age he just worked and worked at his craft. Sure, he was always talented but history is full of wasted talent stories – and not just in sports.
I admire anyone who is so determined and hungry for success that he is doing whatever he has to do.
I guess that’s what separates Tiger from us mere mortals. They have that little bit extra that they can always find and it’s something worth striving for I believe.
Some people are up in arms about paying him $3million USD to come to Melbourne but it couldn’t be a better thing for the game of golf or tourism in general – exactly like my experience earlier this year when I flew to Adelaide to see Lance Armstrong in the Tour Down Under.
He puts bums on seats.
After that interview I just might start following him a bit more because I realise that people like him only come by once in a generation.
If there’s one thing I took away from Tiger is you have to be completely focused and driven. He knows exactly where he is going and he knows exactly what motivates him – and it isn’t all about the money.
What’s your thoughts on Tiger?
Are you a non golfer like me but still got inspired after watching 60 Minutes last night?

I know this is a bit older post, but I just wanted to throw out my best wishes for Tiger’s wife and kids. I watched that interview and, while the guy looks like a class act, it’s just not the case. I’m disappointed, he was a hero and role model for so many kids – including myself.

Your right Joe – Tiger is a dog and there is nothing more to it.
I could respect him if he came forward and manned up to an interview and totally come clean instead of hiding behind press releases. If he did that people would get over it.
Now it’ll just keep on rehashing each time a chick wants an easy pay out by talking to the press.
