I heard on the radio this morning that Barack Obama was asked that good old question If you could have dinner with anybody in the world – dead or alive – who would it be?
Now, I’ve asked a few people that over the years in various interviews that I’ve done so I thought I’d be a little self indulgent and run through my “dinner list”.
But I’m going to do it with a twist… I’m breaking it down into categories – Sportsperson, Musician, Celebrity and Person no longer living.
So enjoy an insight into the workings of my mind and be sure to let me know who you want to sit down next to I had you on my hotseat asking the same question.
Person No Longer Living
This one is my Dad. I would love to sit down and have another meal with Dad. More than that, I’d love for my fiancée Bron to meet him as I met her 6 months after my Dad died back in 2005.
The one good thing I can take out of Dad no longer being here is that it made me pull my finger out and take nothing for granted. As a result I decided to start my own business so I guess it’s funny how it all works out – it’s just a shame that he’s no longer around to see everything that is happening in all our lives.
Dad & Me Before My Brothers Wedding
Sportsperson
This should come as no surprise to any long-term readers here that the sportsman that I’d love to sit down over dinner with would be Lance Armstrong.
To me, and to many, the man is just a freak. Considering he shouldn’t even be alive to tell his story is just a major feat. Never mind that he’s won 7 Tour de France’s, arguably the world’s toughest endurance event, and to get a podium finish this year after 3.5 years off and riding with a guy going against team tactics is just phenomenonal.
If I had dinner with Lance I’d love to just get inside his head. See what makes him tick. I’d be asking his big life lessons and any insider information on forming a mind, as well as the body, of steel.

Musician
This one is another no-brainer for me – Dave Matthews of the Dave Matthews Band hands down.
To be honest, the first time I heard DMB I couldn’t stand them! I was working in the States back in the day and my mates always used to play them, as I learned to expect when you are from the South, and every time I was in these blokes car the same album that is now my all time favourite album “Under the Table and Dreaming” was cranking.
I don’t know why I couldn’t stand it but as the summer wore on, I grew to not only like them but by the end of the summer I owned that same CD!
I’ve been lucky enough to see DMB both times they’ve been in Australia and love their live experiences. The only pre-requisite of Dave coming to dinner would be he bring his acoustic guitar and play some tunes.
Celebrity
Now, the bloke in me wants to say someone like former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins or some other hot model but common sense is that if I had just this one opportunity I couldn’t really make the most of that one now that I’m nearly a married man.
So common sense prevailing, I’d have to say Richard Branson in a photo finish over Donald Trump. I just like how Branson’s always backed himself and how he started from absolutely nothing back when he was 15. It would be awesome just to pick his brain and listen and learn.

So that’s my dinner list. Who’s on yours?
Oh and if you were wondering who Obama wanted to have dinner with, it was Ghandi.

I knew you would say Lance!
I am a swimmer and would love to have dinner with Ian Thorpe, even if its just to check out the size of his feet. My husband just walked past and said his pick is Michael Schumacher. He is a serious motor sport fan.
It’s a good topic to think about.
It’s that obvious is it Kellie? Thorpey would be interesting for sure. He was a freak. Schumacher is a legend at his sport – I can’t get into car racing but appreciate how he dominated for so long
