Holiday Survival Healthy Eating Tips: Breakfast

With the holiday season almost upon us, I know a lot of people will be heading away for a big trip to see family or just to enjoy some quiet time on a beach somewhere warm.

This holiday survial healthy eating tips series will today start with breakfast and I’ll show you how you can survive with your healthy eating plan pretty much still intact no matter where you are in the world.

Breakfast is pretty much the easiest meal to stay on track for when you are on the road.

Take for example some of my breakfast options while on my honeymoon in Hawaii over the last 2 weeks.

Breakfast is easy because you can control what you eat – you don’t have to be limited to the hotel buffet and even if you are, chances are you’ll find something pretty decent.

Option 1: DIY Breakfast
Go to the shops and grab some fruit and a nut/seed mix and make your own quick breaky. This is a cheap option too.

The only place this probably won’t work is on an island destination like Fiji or the like where you are pretty much limited to the hotel buffet – but I’ll address that soon.

Option 2: Eating Out
This option is for those who are keen to eat out and explore what your destinations culinary treats have to offer.

Sure you can go to town and devour the big breakfast with everything imaginable that will clog your arteries – I even enjoy doing that from time to time – but 9 times out of 10 you’ll have to pick something realistic for your fat loss mission.

The easy option here is an omlette. You can pretty much get these anywhere and topping choices are up to you. Always stock up on your veggies here and if you can get an extra protein source like beans you’ll be well on the right track.

Option 3: Hotel Buffet

This final option doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. Sure the hot stuff looks great and tasty and those pastries are tempting but think of your end goal:

If you want to lose fat you can’t just go to town on your holiday.

So you can go for the omlette option like above – some hotels even have a chef cooking you a fresh omlette or eggs of your choice right there. It doesn’t get much fresher (and healthier) than that.

You can also go to town and destroy the fruit section. This is a great idea if you’re in a tropical location.

In Hawaii I was loving the fresh pineapple, bannas and papaya most days.

I add some protein to this with some fresh nuts which most places will have.

You can even go for the oatmeal or porridge option and put some fresh fruit on top of that for extra sustenance.

There you go. Part 1 down in your holiday survival healthy eating tips hotlist – based on my travel experiences.

And you don’t even have to settle for those dodgy breakfast cereals that you’ll find everywhere you go!

I’d love to hear what your holiday breakfast option is – just let me know below.
